About The Course
The course is in collaboration with BINUS, where we undertook a consulting project for an Indonesian client. My client was an Artisan Tea Producer, and together with 2 other SMU Students, and 2 BINUS students, we provided recommendations on sustainable packaging and collaborations with Charitable Foundations.
We explored many companies in Indonesia, understood a little bit more about their concerns, and the geographical and political landscape that they operate in, and overall deepened our understanding of the environment that businesses operate in in Indonesia.
Reflection
Coming into this module, I had not visited Indonesia. I was excited to explore a new country and make new friends. This module served as an extremely valuable experience; not only did we have ample time to be tourists and enjoy leisure activities, but we also had opportunities to befriend students from a top Indonesian University! Furthermore, we got to interact with various types of businesses from Indonesia, from a large conglomerate to rural banks and even an Artisan Tea Producer!
This experience provided so much more insight and satiated my curiosity about the country than if I were to come as a tourist. For example, it is easy to recommend to an Indonesian client to source materials from a cheaper country (such as China) in order to cut costs. However, without actually experiencing first-hand the concerns of the businesses, such as the unpredictability and inconsistency of the traffic in Indonesia, along with the high tax and import fees that businesses experience, we would not be able to formulate a comprehensive recommendation.
Thus, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, to make new friends, deepen my understanding of a new country, and to also explore!
Thank You Notes to Benefactors
I am extremely grateful for this award, it has definitely allowed me to take on many elective activities and explore the country a lot more, such as hiking Mount Batur, going to a beach club, trying out different types of food, and overall have a really fun and memorable experience.
