About The Course
Financial Market plays an important part in assuring the efficiency of the economy, creating economic growth and development for many countries. However, we are also experiencing more and more economic turbulence erupting from the activities of financial markets which raises questions regarding the essential roles of the Central Bank especially in conducting Monetary Policy as well as managing the banking system and financial markets.
There are two main parts to this course. The first part explains the functions and structure of Financial Markets (including both assets market and market for money), helping students to understand the meaning and behaviours of interest rates, money demand, and money supply. That serves as the background for the second part, in which the banking system and monetary policy theory and strategies were introduced. Both parts highlight the management roles of the Central Bank.
Reflection
I participated in this program to learn how I can apply theories to solve real-life problems instead of just going for exams. Looking back on the past 10 days, I am glad that I chose this module; the program exceeded my expectations – it was engaging, enriching and eye-opening.
Hearing a lecture from one of Vietnam's top economists was a real privilege. It was different from just reading research papers as we had the opportunity to hear his thought process and ask him questions, in which simply googling wouldn’t give us an answer to. Other highlights of the trip include hanging out with the local students and visiting the cultural sites/museums. Going to Vietnam has truly provided an immersive experience which helped me to develop a deeper appreciation for its country and its culture. I am grateful for this opportunity.
Special thanks to Professor Que Vu for her endless guidance on our projects.
Thank You Notes to Benefactors
Thank you to the generous benefactors who made this trip possible for me. Because of your giving, I was able to gain global learning experience. I broadened my knowledge and applied theory to solve real-life problems with a client. I certainly do not take this for granted, and I promise to pay it forward in the future.
