About The Course
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an appreciation of business and investment opportunities in Indonesia, and an understanding of its social, cultural, economic, and political landscape.
At the same time, this is an SMU‐XO module, which offers an overseas experiential learning opportunity for students. The course allows students to translate classroom knowledge and theory into practical solutions for real organizations. In addition to visits to companies and organizations, students will also participate in a consultancy project with students from BINUS University. Through the project, students will learn how to solve business problems with guidance from the faculty and project sponsor mentors, from problem definition to final client presentation – while simultaneously testing their skills in real-world settings. The project will focus on evaluating problems faced by the accounting/finance and other functions of one company in Indonesia and recommending/applying solutions to these problems.
Reflection
Having taken another SMU-X course before this, I knew I had to take up another SMU-X course, especially after being given the opportunity to collaborate with students from Jakarta and handle a consultancy project with companies from Jakarta and Bali. Though the consultancy project looked daunting at first, we had a project mentor to guide us through the project and this gave us a better perspective from the client’s view concerning the problem statement.
Prof Yuanto is also a very knowledgeable lecturer. Not only did he supervise us for the project, but he introduced us to the Indonesian culture throughout the semester, even letting us present on Indonesia-themed topics as a group. When we arrived in Jakarta, we went on a few company visits such as Unilever and SCTV Indonesia. It was an eye-opening experience as they are well-known and large companies that I have always seen on the news, so being able to visit them and go around on an office tour, was an eye-opening experience.
Thank You Notes to Benefactors
I wish to express my gratitude for your generous support in making this trip possible for me. Not only was I able to broaden my knowledge overseas, but I was also able to connect with like-minded individuals from BINUS University during the course. This will definitely make a mark in my SMU journey and will be something I will look back on after I graduate. Thank you once again for making an impact on this study mission, your kind generosity will be remembered!
