About The Course
This course allowed me to apply the knowledge and skills that I had learnt in the Analytics Foundation course to a real-life project. Through the use of data analytics and machine learning, we were able to help the company understand its users and come up with actionable recommendations. The use of data analytics helps Thai companies be more competitive as well as make data-driven decision in their everyday business as usual activities. This is especially true in solving problems in Thailand's diverse economic landscape, which includes agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and the recent digital transformation accelerated by Covid-19.
Reflection
One of the biggest lessons that I have learnt from working on this project is that real life data is really hard to work with, and can be limited. It does not seem as clean as the data that we used in Analytics Foundation, where there is an “answer” at the end of every question.
A big challenge that we encountered as a group was coming up with our problem statement. The sponsor had shared with us what they wanted to know, but putting it in words and making sure it is what they wanted is a little tricky. It was important to get it right as it serves as our guiding light for all the analysis that we do.
Nonetheless, I believe we still managed to extract meaningful insights and develop some actionable recommendations. I think that was a success in my eyes for my team.
At the same time, the overseas trip to Bangkok had allowed me to experience the culture of the Thai people, from their food, the night market and just learning about their history. It was an eye-opening experience that made me crave for more overseas trip like this.
Thank You Notes to Benefactors
Your contribution has allowed me to make a very memorable experience here at SMU. Working on the project as well as travelling to Bangkok has allowed me to explore another country’s culture and understand more on how they life their lives. I am now more aware of the cultural differences that another country may have, and it is something that would shape my mindset when I enter the workforce after graduation. Thank you once again for making this possible!
