About The Course
An SMU-X course that introduces students to the science and art of storytelling for organizations and brands. Drawing from fields such as cognitive science and social psychology, it will help students to master the knowledge and skills to engage and influence audiences, especially on social media. Students will learn what it takes to craft authentic, engaging and ‘shareable’ stories that fit different types of social media channels.
Reflection
Have you ever woken up from a beautiful dream and felt so inspired and refreshed to start the day right? That is how I would describe my journey in Korea. Those days that went by way too quickly, but left me so convicted to have passion and have purpose for what I do. It must have been the constant encouragement and shaped-by-failure success stories of the prominent figures we met at our company visits. Or perhaps it was the transformative experience of developing close bonds to my 23 classmates with whom I initially had no connection with during the journey? It might have even been a consequence of observing the challenges faced by the elderly, individuals with special needs, and the homeless.
I have taken away so much from Korea. Everything I saw, heard, and experienced in Korea was beautiful, not because it was perfect, but because I saw that I needed to not be afraid to work hard and strive for my dreams.
Thank You Notes to Benefactors
To all my benefactors who has made this trip possible, thank you, thank you and thank you. I can confidently say that this trip has been a very enriching one. The more I learnt about how Koreans view work and what work meant in Korea, the more I began thinking about what work meant for me. This trip helped me see that I have indeed been pursuing a path of highest reward with the least effort. I realized that I ought to take a second look at my life, to see what really matters. Beyond all this introspection, my trip also helped me see that there were many forgotten communities in Korea that reminded me of Singapore. I saw a lot of homeless people, a lot of elderly, inadequate housing, and many people with special needs who were not attended to, which made me also think about whether I have overlooked these people groups when I was in Singapore, and what I could do for these communities here.
