After successfully completing this course students will:
1. Understand various models of mediation internationally
2. Be able to explain the purpose of each stage in the facilitative mediation process
3. Be able to demonstrate knowledge, application of ethics and skills of mediation
4. Be able to demonstrate conduct of a mediation process
5. Research and critically discuss some current issues in conflict resolution and effectively
present (orally and in writing) your findings.
For AY24/25, the primary focus of this course is two fold:
‣ Experiencing professional project management within the Contemporary Art World
‣ Understanding the key stakeholders, professional activities and aesthetic vocabulary of the Contemporary Art World, especially in the Singapore context.
Critical questions to be explored include:
‣What are the stakeholders, professional activities and specialised areas of activity in the contemporary art world today, especially within the context of Singapore?
‣What are the roles and responsibilities of arts managers in the contemporary art world?
‣How do arts managers develop, engage and enrich the experiences of contemporary art audiences?
‣How do arts managers manage differing interests and stakeholders, while striving for financial sustainability in the contemporary art world?
‣What is the best way - if any - to frame and promote a particular contemporary art exhibition?
‣What role does the public have in engaging with the objects and ideas in exhibitions?
Students who complete this course should acquire the following course-specific skills :
‣ Be familiar with the scope and function of the various bodies, industries and organisations involved in the promotion, collection and presentation of contemporary visual culture, especially in the SG context.
‣ Understand what is involved in the roles and responsibilities of arts managers and intermediaries working behind the scenes to enable the local visual arts world ‣ Obtain familiarity with the aesthetic vocabulary of the contemporary art world from provenance to compliance and connoisseurship
‣ Be able to engage critically with a range of curatorial and exhibition strategies in varying display settings
‣ Be able to apply a range of critical, theoretical, art historical and museological approaches to the study of exhibitions and displays in contemporary settings ‣ Be keenly aware of the changing nature of exhibiting contemporary art, including peripatetic, freelance and nomadic models
‣ Be able to critical assess the potential impact of different and varied influences on changing nature contemporary art, including ethical issues and growing crises
- Sensitivity to Developments in Asia: Enhance academic and practical understanding of key sustainbility issues across the region. Obtain sufficient knowledge about these issues to engage in design thinking exercises that generate practical and innovative ideas designed to address these problems.
- Disciplinary Knowledge: Critically evaluate specific sustainability issues through the lens through several social science disciplines, including sociology, political science and psychology. Deepen our knowledge of the sustainability development goals.
- Critical Thinking: Apply design thinking methodology to generate and refine innovative and practical approaches that can address specific problems.
- Intercultural Understanding and Thinking: To understand how different cultures experience specific problems differently. To display cultural understanding in designing solutions.
- Communication: To hone the skill of presenting innovative ideas to experts clearly and engagingly.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
1) Understand the general legal framework regulating major corporate deals
2) Understand the main legal documents involved in corporate deals
3) Understand the business and financial rationales for the legal devices used
4) Understand the key issues in negotiating and advising on venture capital investment deals
Disciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge: at the end of the course, students should be able to appreciate and see how to integrate knowledge on technology and society from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
Intellectual, Management and Creative Skills: students should be able to demonstrate how “book” knowledge must be complemented by practical applied knowledge, especially in the context of management decisions within industries. Students’ creativity in considering solutions will also be developed in the context of the group project with the industrial partner.
By the end of the course, students will be able to improve Korean communication skills and to acquire basic knowledge in interacting with colleagues and bosses in the Korean workplace. They will be able to have formal conversation competently and understand Korean grammar and sentence patterns normally used in the Korean business context. In addition, they will be able to write resume and cover letters, make business calls, and craft simple business emails using honorific forms and formal forms. They will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and cultural awareness necessary to engage effectively in Korean business environments and successfully execute overseas projects in Korea.

By the end of this course, students will have a good understanding of the process of product development and innovation and thus:
• Know where and how to find ideas for innovation
• Understand the differences between product innovation and business model innovation
• Have a toolbox for analysing and shaping a strategy for innovation
• Understand different types of organisation to promote innovation
• Have a deeper understanding of how to improve the productivity of Research and Development
• Improve the process of development of new products and services in order to gain time and improve the quality of the end product
• Understand the challenges of managing projects that face a lot of uncertainty
• Understand how to manage in networks of companies that together provide an innovation
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Assess a business problem and/or opportunity from the current business environment, including new and untapped markets
• Design interdisciplinary solutions to address the business challenge or future opportunities by considering strategy, marketing, operations, organization, finance, and communication
• Reason critically through the solution process with appropriate modes of analysis
• Describe the solution’s implementation plans and processes with regard to the firm’s existing strategy, market, and organization
• Apply a variety of approaches to engage with busy business executives to obtain guidance and information, as well as, secure their buy-in to your ideas
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Formulate a clear-cut description of the problem a client wishes to address
• Frame the problem, break it down into sub-problems, and identify interdependencies
• Analyse the formulated problem by using an appropriate problem-solving approach
• Present and communicate their results to the clients
• Work in a multi-national and/or multi-cultural team, appreciating specific strength of each team member
• Interact with corporate representatives on a professional level
• Prepare a proposal that persuades a potential client to adopt it
• Understand how consultants use their expertise to win engagements
