Course: ACCT414 Accounting Analytics Capstone
Project Description

EVCo is a joint venture that aims to become a dominant force in Southeast Asia's Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) ecosystem offering offer end-to-end e-Mobility solutions to corporate customers. An AXA Switzerland study in 2022 found that EVs are 50% more likely to get into accidents than petrol or diesel cars because they tend to accelerate faster. However, the advanced technology in EVs is not the main cause of these accidents, but the driving behaviours of the drivers. As such, EVCo wants to develop a robust driver scoring framework to track high-risk driving behaviour and minimise the occurrence of accidents.

Students worked closely with EVCo to devise a transformative solution -- the project aspires to construct a robust driver scoring framework that can effectively monitor and address high-risk driving behaviour, thereby diminishing the incidence of accidents. This collaboration brings together the expertise of SMU faculty and students to shape a novel Driver Scoring Framework tailored to Singapore’s unique context. This framework, fortified by advanced technology and data analytics, seeks to scientifically evaluate driving behaviour, identify high-risk tendencies, and facilitate targeted intervention strategies for improved road safety.

Project Outcomes

By harnessing the expertise of SMU faculty and students through the course, EVCo aspires to engineer a contextualised solution tailored to Singapore's landscape. This framework serves as a remedy by scientifically assessing driving behaviours, identifying potential risks necessitating immediate intervention, and constructing a driver safety monitoring dashboard. These elements amalgamate into a cohesive strategy that enhances road safety and augments the overall e-Mobility ecosystem's resilience.

Simultaneously, the project offers SMU-X students an immersive opportunity to grapple with real-world complexities. It equips them with practical skills and exposure to sustainability issues, fostering responsible citizenship and preparing them for a professional landscape. This interdisciplinary partnership showcases the potential of academia and industry convergence, manifesting as a comprehensive solution to pressing challenges while empowering the next generation of responsible leaders.

This collaboration harnesses the power of supervised and unsupervised machine learning (ML) techniques, synergising insights from diverse fields like accounting, business, and data science. In this immersive consulting project, students and faculty coalesce their expertise to diagnose EVCo's challenges, propose effective solutions, and execute comprehensive data analysis, culminating in a functional prototype.
