Your favourite/ most memorable project

As part of ACCT001, I led a SMU-X overseas study mission to Laos. We worked on several projects with KP Company, a large conglomerate in Laos, to improve various aspects of their accounting capabilities and processes.

This engagement was memorable because it not only allowed the students to play a meaningful role in adding value to the company but also gave them the opportunity to experience the Laotian working culture first hand.

Publications or published articles related to SMU-X projects (if any).

“Partnership Management can Enhance Universities’ Project-Based Learning.” (with G. Pan), The Business Times, March 2021.

“Grooming the Next Generation of Accounting Professionals for the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” (with G. Pan, P. S. Seow, and B. Lee). In C. Goh, G. Pan, P. S. Seow, B. Lee, and M. Yong (Eds.), Charting the Future of Accountancy with AI (pp. 55-61). CPA Australia, July 2019.

“Academia-Industry Alliance can Boost Accountancy in Laos.” (with S. Saephan), The Business Times, March 2019.

What you envision for your area(s) of interest and research etc

Many companies are engaging in the digital transformation of their accounting functions. Ensuring that this progresses smoothly is critical because technology has the potential to increase the efficiency of the accounting function exponentially. One way in which I hope to play a role is by using SMU-X courses to engage with companies and to contribute to their digital transformation journeys.
